As part of a programme of regional tourism plans in Saudi Arabia, work on the Riyadh, Tabuk and Makkah provinces regional tourism development plans involved evaluating all aspects of the cultural heritage assets from archaeological sites through to historic town centres, handicrafts and intangible heritage to make recommendations for their integration into the regional tourism offer.

Located to the north of Jeddah on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Coast the historic towns of Yanbu Al-Bahr, Umluj, Al-Wajh and Duba have largely been abandoned.  Conservation and tourism development strategies, including protection and management plans for each of the four towns were prepared in anticipation of their revitalisation through sensitive cultural tourism developments. The purpose of the Heritage-led Regeneration Strategy for Mallow in County Cork, Ireland was to develop a series of options for the regeneration of the town through its rich and diverse heritage assets including townscape character and intangible heritage linked to Irish literature and politics. Recommendations were made and project profiles developed for urban realm improvements, the reuse of historic buildings, interpretation, promotion and marketing.
