Dr Aylin Orbaşlı

Sustainable development and management of the historic environment and cultural heritage sites

Dr. Aylin Orbaşlı is an independent consultant with over fifteen years UK and international experience of working with and advising on historic buildings and areas. She trained as an architect and has specialised in conservation and heritage management. 

She has an informed understanding of UK heritage and regeneration policies and is aware of the work of cultural heritage operators and institutions internationally and in the UK and has established links with many of them.

Internationally she has undertaken work for national and regional governments and worked on donor-funded projects, often advising on heritage in the context of tourism development.  She has experience of working at World Heritage Sites and UNESCO requirements for the inscription and management of sites on the list.

Consultancy assignments can be undertaken as a sub-consultant to a consultancy practice, as a member of a consortium or directly with clients.  Through an established network of associates we can bring together a highly qualified and experienced team to suit client needs and project requirements.  Clients range from national governments, local governments and international conservation and tourism organisations to small trusts.  

Aylin is a board member of ICOMOS-UK (International Council on Monuments and Sites), a board member of Herity  International and a trustee of International Monuments Fund. She is a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and the Tourism Society.  She is the author of two books Tourists in Historic Towns: Urban Conservation and Heritage Management and Architectural Conservation.
